The 117-year-old private, member-owned club in East Providence, R.I. features a Donald Ross-designed golf course. It is located across from an area along the East Providence waterfront that has been targeted for regentrification through development of a mixed-use district with commercial, residential and public open-space opportunities.
Metacomet Country Club, a private, member-owned golf club in East Providence, R.I. with a Donald Ross-designed golf course, has retained the Leisure Investment Properties Group of Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Services to market it for sale.
The club was incorporated in 1901 by five Rhode Island businessmen. The par-70 layout of its golf course plays to 6,475 yards from the Championship tees. The 21,995-sq. ft. clubhouse features a 200-seat banquet room, bar, grill room, terrace dining room, pro shop, cart storage and locker facilities. Most of the course maintenance equipment, along with twenty-five golf carts, are owned by the club and included in the sale.
“Metacomet Country Club is a traditional golf club featuring a classic parkland layout, designed by Donald Ross,” said Rob Waldron, Lead Investment Advisor from Marcus & Millichap’s Golf Division for the sale. “Ross did a wonderful job incorporating the natural elevation changes indigenous to the site into his routing.
“The ‘Met’ has long been considered one of the best golf courses in Rhode Island,” Waldron continued. “The course has a well-earned reputation for impeccable course conditioning and some of the best greens in New England.
“Metacomet Country Club is within a ten-minute drive from downtown Providence, accessible via Interstate 95,” Waldron added. “The club is situated in a beautiful parkland setting with breathtaking views of Narragansett Bay, making it one of the most popular wedding venues in the Providence area.”
The club is located directly across Veterans Memorial Parkway from a new development project, East Providence Harborfront at Bold Point, the brokers noted. The regentrification plan for that area is designed to transform the waterfront into a burgeoning, mixed-use district with commercial, residential and public open-space opportunities.
