The 93-year-old North Carolina resort property had a sign posted in its pro shop reading “Transition in Progress/Course is Closed” as the last week of August began. Its Johnny Palmer Grill, which had stopped serving food in recent weeks, also closed for all service, and the General Manager and President of the company that purchased the property last year could not be reached for comment.
Members of the Badin Inn Golf Club in Badin, N.C. have been left without many answers after the private golf course, which has a history dating back to 1924, was suddenly closed during the last week of August, The Stanly News & Press of Albemarle, N.C. reported.
A sign hanging in the pro shop reading “Transition in Progress / Course Is Closed” has been the only official notification to the club’s members about the status of the course, Todd Huneycutt, an eight-year member, told the News & Press.
Nothing has been officially sent to himself and other club members regarding the course’s status, Huneycutt added.
“It was floundering, anyway. They have been losing members left and right,” Huneycutt told the News & Press, adding it was “sad” and that the Badin Inn “is a good place.”
The Johnny Palmer Grill, which had in previous years been open to the public for lunch and dinner, had “closed for the last three to four weeks” in terms of serving food to golfers, Honeycutt said, and had become “more like a bar,” he told the News & Press, before finally shutting down altogether on August 28th.
Another club member, Tom Kraeft, said he was told the course is closed; the last time he played golf there was on August 18th, Kraeft told the News & Press.
“Nobody in town wants to lose this historical place,” Kraeft said.
Calls made and voicemails left for Mark Eberle, President of First Man Management, LLC, the company that purchased the Inn last year, were not returned, the News & Press reported. Eberle also served as the club’s General Manager.
The property also has a resort component, offering stays at on-site suites and condominiums.
