TPC Wakefield will be the eighth course in the stable of private courses owned by McConnell Golf.
McConnell Golf will be purchasing TPC at Wakefield Plantation in Raleigh, N.C., reports the Winston-Salem Journal. It will be the eighth course in the company’s stable of private courses.
McConnell also owns Sedgefield Country Club, which will play host to the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship later this month. By adding the TPC at Wakefield, a course that plays host to the Rex Hospital Open on the Nationwide Tour, McConnell Golf will now have exposure on two tours.
“We are certainly on the PGA’s radar, especially since doing a business transaction with them,” said John McConnell, who started McConnell Golf in 2003, of buying the TPC at Wakefield, which is currently owned by the PGA Tour.
Of the six North Carolina courses that McConnell owns after adding the TPC at Wakefield, all of them are ranked in the top 100 according to the North Carolina Golf Panel’s rakings for 2011.
