A special celebration and golf event is planned for August 28th at “The MAX,” when the new 9,000-sq. ft. building that overlooks the Rio Grande River will be opened.
The new clubhouse at the Max A. Mandel Municipal Golf Course in Laredo, Texas is almost finished and the city, together with its partners Foresight Golf, the Mandel Family, Landscapes Unlimited and course architect Robert Trent Jones II, is planning a special celebration and golf event on August 28th, when the 9,000-sq. ft. building that overlooks the Rio Grande River will be opened.
As part of the opening celebration, Hall of Fame golfer Nancy Lopez will spend the day at the course, known as The MAX, as a special guest. Lopez will conduct a putting clinic with local junior golfers, then participate in a charity tournament. The event is slated to begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9:00 a.m.
“This is the next big thing with ‘The MAX,’ ” said Horacio De Leon, Assistant City Manager. “We are planning a memorable event with Nancy Lopez to dedicate our new clubhouse. A reception, ribbon-cutting and golf tournament will mark the final chapter of all construction, after which we will be a full-service facility moving forward. The golf clubhouse will be a perfect venue not only for servicing our golf clientele, but also for hosting special events, dinners and parties.”
The hacienda-style clubhouse was designed by Laredo’s Metaform Studio Architects, headed by the team of Ricardo Solis and Eduardo Quiroga, and affords spectacular views of several holes. Inside is a golf pro shop, full-service bar, Las Islitas (a full-service restaurant) and a second-level banquet facility.
The interior design firm, Laredo’s William Moritz Luft, has been involved in restoring historic buildings in downtown Laredo. The entire construction project, course and clubhouse, was awarded to Landscapes Unlimited. The clubhouse build-out was then under the charge of ICN Construction Company as the local contractor on the job, with Mario Novoa as the project manager.
