The resort’s Rookery Golf Course is scheduled to close for updates in late April with plans to re-open in November, undergoing installation of Platinum Paspalum turf and design changes to bunker complexes. Throughout construction, members and guests will be able to play the property’s second championship golf course, Hammock Bay.
Marco Island (Fla.) Marriott Beach Resort, Golf Club & Spa will begin a six-month $4 million renovation of its award-winning Rookery Golf Course in late April, Luxury Travel Magazine reported.
The renovation plans will feature the installation of wall-to-wall Platinum Paspalum turf and a soft goods upgrade to the course’s clubhouse, which will feature a return to an “Old Florida” interior theme with new furniture, flooring, lighting, and paint, Luxury Travel reported.
The project will also feature design changes to many of its bunker complexes, which will be facilitated by Peter Jacobsen & Jim Hardy of Jacobsen and Hardy Golf Course Design, Luxury Travel reported.
“Each golf course has a unique character in large part to the collection of bunkers,” said designer Peter Jacobsen. “We are excited about enhancing and updating the bunkers at The Rookery to improve the playability and overall golf experience.”
The Rookery is scheduled to close for updates starting in late April and is expected to re-open in November 2014, Luxury Travel reported.
“As one of South Florida’s premier golf destinations, our goal is to move our golf product from great to legendary with these improvements,” said General Manager of Golf Chris Major. “Keeping our prestigious courses up to par is a priority and we look forward to welcoming back our Members and travelers to experience our new and improved course at the end of the year.”
While the course is under construction, resort guests and members will be able to play at Marco Island Marriott’s second Championship course, Hammock Bay, a par 72 course with 18 challenging and distinct holes, Luxury Travel reported.
C&RB featured Marco Island Marriott as its cover story in 2006 (“Breaking the Chains at the Marco Island Marriott“).
