A man was seriously injured after the golf cart he was riding in overturned on Sunday, June 23 at Nissequogue Country Club in Saint James, Long Island, N.Y., Newsday and The Wall Street Journal reported.
Dennis Joyce, 65, of Smithtown, N.Y. was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital after the cart he was in flipped as it slid down a hill near the course’s 14th hole, police said. Joyce, who was the passenger in the cart, suffered serious injuries, Newsday reported.
The incident happened at 12:43 p.m. as Joyce and his golfing companion who was driving the cart, John Cerbone, had been looking for a ball, Newsday reported. Cerbone, described as from Centereach, N.Y. and in his 50s, was not injured, it was reported.
No one at the golf club was available for comment on the afternoon of the incident, Newsday said.
