Roberta L. Mangini pleaded guilty to felony theft stemming from allegations she stole more than $173,000 from the Barrington, Ill., club over a three-year period. Mangini was sentenced to four years of probation and ordered to pay restitution of $1,000 per month until the full amount is repaid.
The former Director of Catering at the Makray Memorial Golf Club in Barrington, Ill., has pleaded guilty to felony theft stemming from allegations she stole more than $173,000 from the golf course over a three-year period, the Arlington Heights (Ill.) Daily Herald reported.
Roberta “Bobbie” L. Mangini was sentenced to four years of probation and ordered to pay $173,998 in restitution after admitting guilt in Cook County court. She made a $10,000 restitution payment September 24 and must submit $1,000 a month until the full amount has been repaid, the Herald reported.
The Barrington Police Department and Cook County’s State’s Attorney’s Financial Crimes Unit spent seven months investigating a scheme in which they said Mangini would offer deep discounts to those looking to host events at the golf club in exchange for a full cash payment, the Herald reported.
Mangini would then take portions of the cash payments without reporting the full amounts to Makray, authorities said.
Mangini was arrested in 2010. Investigators said they believe the thefts dated as far back as 2007, the Herald reported.
