Because of concerns over growing operating costs and debt, the city had explored converting the 27-hole property into a sports park or selling it for development. But strong support from residents helped to prompt the city council’s unanimous decision to negotiate a full-lease agreement with CourseCo, the Petaluma, Calif.-based management firm that has been a partial operator of Las Positas.
The City Council of Livermore, Calif. voted unanimously earlier in July to accept a golf course management company’s proposal to pursue a full-lease agreement for the city-owned Las Positas Golf Course, the Pleasanton (Calif.) Weekly reported.
Under the agreement framework, Petaluma, Calif.-based CourseCo would assume all responsibility for the golf course operations and oversight, expanding its partial operator role at the municipal course off Interstate 580, the Weekly reported.
The proposal, which received initial support from the council on July 9th but is still subject to final negotiations, would remove the city’s involvement in the day-to-day golf business, eliminating costs and relieving debt for the city, according to city staff. The proposed term of the lease would be 10 years, with two optional five-year extensions, the Weekly reported.
Other options the city explored for the golf course property, due to cost concerns, included converting the land to a sports park or selling it for commercial development, the Weekly reported. But support for maintaining the golf course and entering into a full-lease agreement with CourseCo was strong among the council and audience members.
City staff will now negotiate final terms with CourseCo and bring a lease agreement back for council consideration by September, the Weekly reported.
Tucked between I-580 and the Livermore Municipal Airport, Las Positas features an 18-hole golf course, a nine-hole course and a driving range, along with restaurant and clubhouse facilities.
