Mizner CC is giving a voice to the next generation through its Junior Board of Directors.
As clubs have become more youth-oriented, the trend has prompted Mizner Country Club to give the next generation a voice in governing the Delray Beach, Fla., club.
The club’s Junior Board of Directors consists of membership representatives, ages 10 to 18, who meet quarterly with General Manager/Chief Operating Officer Larry Savvides and Kids Manager Kristy King. The Junior Board discusses upcoming events, gives feedback on previous activities, and brainstorms for new events in a formal meeting.
“The goal of the program is to empower Mizner’s next generation with leadership skills and to promote dependability and creativity among Mizner’s junior population,” Savvides says.
One idea developed by the Junior Board was an “open gym” time for juniors to use the club’s fitness center, giving them a place to meet and work out with their peers. The club’s Board of Directors supported the idea and approved the program, establishing the “open gym” for ages 10 and up every Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. A certified personal trainer monitors and educates the juniors on posture, proper form, nutrition, strength and endurance.
“The Junior Board is directly involved in the planning process of Mizner Kids’ events, which are scheduled year-round at the club,” King adds. “They’re expected to attend their Board meetings, come dressed in their Junior Board shirts, and contribute to the success of Mizner’s family programming.”
