Jerry Coldiron oversaw Boone County’s golf courses for 27 years before his death in 2017. A special ceremony will be held on November 16th to dedicate a permanent bench and garden in his honor overlooking the 14th tee at the Lassing Point Golf Course Turf Center.
Jerry Coldiron, the former Boone County (Ky.) Golf Course Superintendent, will be memorialized at the Lassing Point Golf Course Turf Center in Union, Ky. on November 16, The River City News, out of Covington, Ky. reported. Coldiron died in 2017 after spending 27 years with the county.
In honor of his achievements and contributions to the golf courses in Boone County, Coldiron will be memorialized and celebrated in a ceremony that will dedicate a permanent bench and garden overlooking the tee box on the 14th hole just outside the Turf Center at Lassing Pointe, The River City News reported.
“Jerry left a positive legacy at our county golf courses and his talents, skills and relationships will long be reflected in the high-quality golf product he established,” said Judge/Executive Gary Moore. “This is a fitting tribute for his positive contributions to Boone County.”
A 1979 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in horticulture and turfgrass management, Coldiron was the first credentialed superintendent to oversee Boone County’s golf courses, The River City News reported. During his tenure with Boone County, Coldiron also served as President of the Greater Cincinnati Superintendents Association of America, as well as President of the Kentucky Turfgrass Council. He was honored for his achievements by being named Eastern Kentucky University’s Horticulture Alumnus of the Year in 1988 and gave back to the community by teaching turfgrass management at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.
