Lansdowne Resort and Spa has returned to the Benchmark Resorts & Hotels portfolio. The Leesburg, Va. property was originally opened by Benchmark in 1991 but sold in 2017 to Dejia, a first-time U.S. hotel investor based in Hong Kong, for $133 million.
Set on 476 acres along the Potomac River, the property features 296 newly renovated guest rooms, including 14 suites, four distinct restaurant and bar concepts, 55,000 sq. ft. of meeting and event space, 45 holes of golf, water sports, tennis and the 12,000-sq.-ft. Spa Minérale.
The resort now joins two sister in-state properties, including the Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center in the Blue Ridge Mountains and The Inn at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, as part of Benchmark Resorts & Hotels.
“We are delighted to expand our presence in Virginia with the return of this celebrated resort,” said Benchmark CEO Alex Cabañas. “Its impressive facilities, recreational options and location in one of America’s most scenic and historically rich areas will offer the kind of experiential and unique travel, meeting and event opportunities that Benchmark is known to provide in each of our locations.”
Through collaboration with the World Health Science Organization, Lansdowne Resort and Spa will in the coming year develop and present wellness programs based on a blend of Eastern and Western health principles and practices called the Harmony Model. As the Harmony Model evolves, Lansdowne Resort will add components including a major Harmony-themed botanical garden and wellness programs featuring the spa, golf courses and cuisine.
“We are excited to join the Benchmark portfolio and develop Lansdowne Resort into a national resort destination offering wellness and Harmony concepts built around an exceptional guest experience,” said Joel Paige, Lansdowne Resort’s Managing Director. “Our partnership with the Harmony Model, led by Dr. William Lang, who formerly served as Director of the White House Medical Unit and deputy physician to President George W. Bush and President Bill Clinton, will help people achieve optimal health status.”
The resort will also offer Weekend Wellness Retreats for individuals and groups with programs that are customized to provide a guide to healthier and more fulfilling lifestyles. All wellness weekend retreat offerings utilize the Harmony concepts of East-West fusion, and are offered in the Lansdowne Resort and Spa.
“As people apply Harmony principles to address the root causes of disease, they rely less and less on having to enter the western ‘disease care system’ and instead focus on their personal self-service model,” said Lang. Echoing the World Health Organization founding principle, he noted that “Health is not the absence of illness, but a status of perfect body and mind for which people must take their own primary responsibility.”
