Kentucky Vaccination Incentives Include Free Golf Rounds

By Joe Barks | August 16, 2021

The state’s Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet has launched a “Vax & Visit KY” initiative to give in-state residents who are 18 years or older and have received at least an initial dose the opportunity to win gift certificates for golf rounds with cart at any of the 13 state-park courses, as well as Overnight & Golf packages at five state-park properties. “Offering vaccine incentives to Kentucky state parks will not only boost travel revenue in local communities, but also ensure that Kentucky continues to be seen as a safe travel destination post-pandemic,” said Cabinet Secretary Mike Berry.

Vaccinated individuals in Kentucky will have the ability to win a “safe-cation” to one of its state parks as part of a new initiative from the state’s Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet, The Owensboro(Ky.) Times reported.

The safe-cation opportunities include gift certificates for golf rounds with cart at any of Kentucky’s 13 state-park golf courses, overnight stays at any of the 30 state park campgrounds, and Overnight & Golf packages at five state park properties.

The “Vax & Visit KY” initiative is part of the ongoing effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 throughout the state, according to the contest website, The Times reported. The initiative comes after realizing the success in the tourism industry throughout the pandemic, according to Cabinet Secretary Mike Berry. In 2020, Berry said, 60% of out-of-state travelers reported seeing Kentucky as a safe state.

“The tourism industry remains committed to being a partner in the commonwealth’s efforts to sprint out of this pandemic,” Berry said. “Offering vaccine incentives to Kentucky state parks will not only boost travel revenue in local communities, but also ensure that Kentucky continues to be seen as a safe travel destination post-pandemic.”

Gov. Andy Beshear also said that the initiative will help to save, thrive and grow the tourism industry throughout the state, The Times reported.

To enter, Kentuckians must be at least 18 years old and have received at least their first dose of a Moderna or Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, or the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Winners will be selected beginning September 9th and the final drawing will take place on October 7th. More information can be found on the “Vax and Visit KY” webpage,https://govstatus.egov.com/ky-vax-and-visit-prizes
