The Pioneer and The Willows courses that have been the most popular among golfers at the Independence, Ky. property will remain open as part of the management transition, but a third course, Fox Run, which was designed by Arthur Hills, will be discontinued. “The decision to close Fox Run was difficult, but focusing on the Pioneer and Willows courses is the best route to success,” said a county official.
Kenton County, Ky. has selected Billy Casper Golf (BCG) to manage two of its three daily-fee courses, The Pioneer and The Willows, in Independence, Ky, the Northern Kentucky Tribune of Edgewood, Ky., reported. The Willows’ course was designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan.
A third course, Fox Run, designed by Arthur Hills, will be discontinued, to focus on improving the facilities remaining 36 holes, which have proved to be the most popular with golfers, the Tribune reported.
BCG will facilitate clubhouse operations, golf course maintenance, marketing and sales, staffing and training, merchandising, golf instruction and financial management for the Kenton County courses, with support from its regional and national teams, the Tribune reported.
Revitalization efforts for the remaining courses will focus on improving turf conditions, making continued re-investment into the facility infrastructure, building a junior golf program and installing BCG’s ACE the Guest Experience training platform, the Tribune reported.
BCG will also plan to present special events throughout 2020, including “craft beer scrambles,” couples and family events, and holiday-themed outings, the Tribune reported. The Kenton County courses will also participate in BCG’s World’s Largest Golf Outing in August, which benefits military veterans and their families.
“I’m confident Billy Casper Golf’s management and marketing expertise is what the The Golf Courses of Kenton County need at this time,” said Kenton County Judge Executive Kris Knochelmann. “We look forward to partnering with Billy Casper Golf to enhance the overall experience for residents and guests alike, and to pursue our shared goal of realizing the golf courses’ full potential.
“The decision to close Fox Run was difficult, but the advice from industry experts was clear and consistent,” Knochelmann added. “Focusing on the Pioneer and Willows courses in partnership with Billy Casper Golf is the best route to success.”
Added Nick Bednar, Vice President of Operations for Billy Casper Golf: ““We are honored to be a part of Kenton County’s vision for a bright future among their golf community, We could not be more excited to implement our services and create a first-class environment for new and avid golfers.”
