Renovated tennis courts and a new pickleball complex are part of an overall renovation at the North Naples, Fla. property that will also include a 150-seat outdoor-dining area, a full kitchen, bar and firepit. There are also plans to add two bocce ball courts and a pavilion.
Kensington Golf & Country Club in North Naples, Fla., has completed a full renovation of its existing tennis courts and installed a new pickleball complex to meet the increasing demand for pickleball facilities among the club’s members and their guests, Florida Weekly reported.
All seven of the club’s tennis courts were completely rebuilt from the ground up and swapped with Har-Tru, replacing three existing Har-Tru and four red clay courts, according to the Florida Weekly report. Both above-ground and sub-surface irrigation was installed to give the courts better playability, and courtside drainage has improved the courts’ appearance and function. New blue canopies were also added to provide shade, and the stadium seating was updated with a new look.
Four new pickleball courts also were installed, creating a dedicated pickleball complex with lights, parking, water fountain, foot washer, social area and a two-tone blue appearance, Florida Weekly reported.
The tennis renovations are the first phase of a larger, $3.5 million club renovation that is anticipated to be completed this spring in conjunction with the club’s 25th anniversary, according to the Florida Weekly report. The construction project includes the addition of several new member amenities as well as a complete refurbishment of certain existing facilities. Current clubhouse dining, outside events and golf course operations will not be affected during the construction.
Kensington G&CC opened in 1994 and features a par-71 Robert Trent Jones Jr. championship golf course that has hosted numerous U.S. Open Qualifiers, most recently in May 2016, Florida Weekly reported. The centerpiece of the club is a 30,000-sq. ft. clubhouse offering casual and formal dining, an Olympic-sized heated swimming pool with cabanas, and year-round social activities.
Included in the renovation plans is a new 150-seat, outdoor-dining area designed by Naples architect David Humphrey, Florida Weekly reported. The building will boast an island-style architecture, including a full kitchen, bar and firepit area with soft seating. It will also provide resort-style, food-and-beverage service for those using the club’s nearby pool area. There are also plans to add two bocce ball courts and a pavilion near the pool area.
