The Warm Springs, Ore., resort evacuated about 500 guests and staff on August 14 as a precaution as firefighters battled the County Line 2 Fire. The facility reopened August 17 as cooler weather and milder winds diminished the threat to the resort.
Kah-Nee-Ta Resort and Spa in Warm Springs, Ore., reopened on August 17 after a wildfire forced about 500 guests and staff to evacuate the complex as a precaution last week, the Portland-based Oregonian reported.
Firefighters continue to battle the County Line 2 fire, but cooler weather and milder winds have diminished the threat to the resort, a major revenue source for the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs. The resort had been closed since Friday, the Oregonian reported.
“You cannot control Mother Nature, but you can control your actions,” General Manager Raul Ainardi said in a news release.
The nearby U.S. 26 also has reopened, meaning that Kah-Nee-Ta’s village and camping areas will house visitors once again. The resort’s RV center, 18-hole golf course, swimming pools with waterslides are also open, the Oregonian reported.
People may see long stretches of scorched ground on the drive to Kah-Nee-Ta, Ainardi said. As of Sunday, the fire had burned about 55,000 acres on the Warm Springs Reservation. Nearly 800 firefighters are working to control the blaze, the Oregonian reported.
