The waterpark, which features seven waterslides, a large kids pool, and the first-of-its-kind FlowRider Triple surf-simulation pool, has added five acres of pool deck to the Aventura, Fla. resort. Also new is the 16-story Orchid Tower with 325 spacious new guest rooms and two new dining venues.
JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa in Aventura, Fla., has opened its Tidal Cove Waterpark, which features a 60-foot tower with seven water slides, a 4,000-sq.-ft. kids pool with an aquatic play structure, the first-ever FlowRider Triple surf-simulation pool in the nation, and an additional VIP pool area for adults.
C+RB reported on the project in February.
The state-of-the-art outdoor recreation area adds five acres of pool deck to the resort. Tidal Cove is the newest amenity of the multimillion-dollar expansion and renovation of JW Marriott Miami Turnberry and is available to resort guests and Turnberry Isle Country Club members.
The new water amenities connect with existing facilities that include a zero-entry pool and a Lazy River that winds through a peaceful one-eighth mile of tropical foliage inspired by the local South Florida surroundings. The redesigned pool complex also includes twenty-five private luxury cabanas for relaxation, two private-event lawns of 15,000 and 12,000 sq. ft., and a new retail store.
One of two new dining facilities, Surf House Bar & Grill, has been introduced as a two-story open-air restaurant and bar with seating for 142 guests. Surf House offers elevated dishes that fit the tropical setting, including swordfish churrasco, steamed mussels, shrimp ceviche and a blackened mahi mahi sandwich.
The second new restaurant, Freestyle, will serve as a quick-service food venue and is designed to meet family needs and round out the Tidal Cove food-and-beverage offerings, with items such as pizza and house-made gelato as signature menu items.
Tidal Cove is home to the first-ever FlowRider Triple facility in the nation, offering three surfing areas totaling 42 feet wide. The FlowRider is a surf-simulation machine which incorporates elements of surfing, bodyboarding, skateboarding, skimboarding, snowboarding and wakeboarding. Through the invention of the FlowRider and its patented sheet wave technology, FlowRider has pioneered the creation of the ultimate cross-platform board sport of “Flowboarding,” which will be showcased at Tidal Cove. General use and private lessons will be available at Tidal Cove.
Designed by WhiteWater, the 60-foot water slide tower features seven slides: the Constrictor, a 558-ft. slide for 1 to 2 riders on rafts; Master Blaster, a 486-ft. slide for 1 to 2 riders on rafts; Boomerango, a 377-ft. slide for 2 to 4 riders on rafts; Whizzard, a 266-ft., two-slide, single-rider mat-racer slide; and two Aqua Drop body slides of 348 and 286 feet, respectively.
Tidal Cove is part of a multimillion-dollar renovation and expansion at JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa that includes the new luxury 16-story Orchid Tower and 325 new guest rooms.
Designed by Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolfe & Associates, the tower nearly doubles JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa’s overall capacity to 685 rooms and suites, with interiors led by design studio, Champalimaud. Upgrades to the main lobby and building, front drive, and other key thoroughfares and resort facilities are also new to the resort.
“JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa is thrilled to welcome Tidal Cove to our resort,” said Jeff Soffer, Chairman and CEO of Fontainebleau Development. “Throughout our 50-year history, we have endeavored to serve our guests and members with exceptional hospitality, and Tidal Cove is the next chapter in our story to continue enhancing the family experience.
“Tidal Cove will be a unique offering in the greater South Florida area and an exciting way for groups and families alike to enjoy the sunshine in a fun, upscale outdoor setting,” Soffer added.
