Thinking of adding a flat-screen TV to your grill? Follow these general tips:
• Consider professional installation. It’s an added expense, but although some clubs, like Manasquan River, opt to put up the TVs themselves, others stress getting outside help. “Have a company come to do it,” says Charter Oaks CC’s Director of Club Operations, Liam Reardon. “If anything ever went wrong and it came crashing down, you have someone to call.”
• Account for the extra seating. Plasma TVs can give you more space. When Charter Oaks replaced its projection screen with a 60-inch plasma set, it gained enough room for three additional tables.
• Crowded rooms benefit from big screens. “The picture quality is better,” says Manasquan River Golf Club’s General Manager/COO, Michael Zusack. “They’re great for watching games and golf. You can see more.”
• Determine if you even need one. Charter Oaks opted not to add a TV to its grill room. “It’s just not the atmosphere,” Reardon says. “It’s more of a family dining place.” Plus, your club may already have enough viewing spots. “There’s no TV in our grill room,” says Bob Mueller, General Manager of Cedar Hill Country Club. “We have TVs everywhere.”
