The Vice President is now a member of the Greenville, Del., club, which asked its members for “comments, both favorable and unfavorable, regarding this candidate” before confirming the membership.
Vice President Joe Biden has joined Wilmington Country Club, the same venerable Greenville, Del., club where Beau Biden, his eldest son and Delaware’s attorney general, already is a member, the Wilmington-based News Journal reported.
The club advertised Biden’s prospective membership in March, asking members for “comments, both favorable and unfavorable, regarding this candidate,” the News Journal reported.
Club officials would not confirm Biden’s membership this week. “Wilmington Country Club is a private club and does not give out any type of information to nonmembers,” Controller Donna Schroeder emailed.
The club’s June newsletter listed “Joseph and Jill Biden” as new members—though, unlike others, without pictures. Biden, who has been known to play at Fieldstone in Greenville, is apparently a pretty good golfer. Golf Digest in 2011 had him, with a 6 handicap, as the 29th best in Washington, the News Journal reported.
The VP has apparently considered what a presidential run would do to his game. In March, Biden received an invitation from Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny to visit Ireland and play a round at one of its courses, the News Journal reported.
“I don’t know about you, but if you want to keep your handicap in golf, don’t run for president,” Biden said. “So I expect strokes when we play.”
