After the announcement last spring of the impending retirement of Stan Marshaus, Director of Golf at Chautauqua (N.Y.) Golf Club for 35 years, a search committee was formed to address the need for a management transition. After a thorough process that involved consultation with the Professional Golf Association of America and others in the golf industry, the committee ultimately recommended a new management model, and as part of that, a decision was made to promote Jack Voelker to General Manager.
The golf club is part of the Chautauqua Institution—a non-profit adult education center and summer resort located in the extreme western part of New York state.
“The appointment of Jack Voelker as General Manager continues the successful model of the Institution’s tennis and fitness center operations through which Jack, as Director of Recreation and Youth Services, will be responsible for budgeting, planning and administrative management, while the professional staff operates the programs and facilities,” said Chautauqua Institution President Thomas Becker.
Voelker will remain Director of Recreation and Youth Services, in addition to his new GM responsibilities. To support Voelker in his new assignment, the club is promoting Gwen Papania to Assistant Director of Recreation and Youth Services.
