Independence Golf Club, a 12-year-old daily-fee club in Midlothian, Va., is in the process of being sold, the Richmond (Va.) BizSense reported.
The nonprofit Virginia State Golf Association (VSGA) Foundation owns the club. Potential buyers include both local and out-of-town parties, sources with knowledge of the deal said. The course has not yet sold, but is in its later stages of a pending sale, BizSense reported.
Eddie Swink, director of development at the VSGA Foundation and several VSGA Foundation board members, would not comment on the pending deal, BizSense reported.
Independence opened in 2001 and is the centerpiece of the surrounding Founders Bridge residential development. It was designed by Tom Fazio and features an 18-hole course and a nine-hole short course. The property comprises about 250 acres, BizSense reported.
The total property was most recently assessed at about $5.5 million, according to the combined assessment from both counties. The club has a 22,000-sq. ft. clubhouse known as the Charles House and is home to the Museum of Virginia Golf History, BizSense reported.
The VSGA Foundation’s mission is to foster amateur and junior golf in the state.
Fees on the full course run between $45 and $65 Monday through Thursday, and $50 to $75 on the weekends, BizSense reported.
