The Sour Lake, Texas property will open its back nine, driving range, and practice area after spending the past five months repairing damage caused by the hurricane. The club’s maintenance barn and golf carts were a loss, while recent improvements to the clubhouse and the front nine were eradicated.
Idylwild Golf Club in Sour Lake, Texas will reopen in late February after spending the last five months repairing damage to the course from Hurricane Harvey, the Beaumont (Texas) Enterprise reported.
Only the course’s back nine holes will be available to play, said golf professional David Bell. Parts of the front nine are still inaccessible because of damaged bridges on the course. The club’s driving range and practice area will also reopen, the Enterprise reported.
The club originally planned to reopen on February 1, Bell said, but recent cold weather delayed the process, the Enterprise reported.
“It’s been a long process back, but the plan is to have that back nine ready to play by late February,” Bell said. “We’ve got people out there working every day to get the front nine ready as soon as possible.”
The club spent $300,000 on a new clubhouse last March and $40,000 to overhaul the front nine greens. Those improvements were eradicated by Harvey, the Enterprise reported.
Idylwild’s maintenance barn completely flooded in the storm, destroying everything inside it. All the club’s golf carts were lost, the Enterprise reported.
