Member-residents of the Roanoke County, Va., community formed a limited-liability company to buy the 150-acre property for $1.9 million from its developer. To help retire existing debt, the company is offering shares to the general public that will include a dues-free dining membership. Outreach is also being made to the public to increase golf rounds.
Hunting Hills Country Club in Roanoke County, Va. has been bought by member residents of the Hunting Hills community, the Roanoke Times reported. Residents stepped up to support a limited-liability company to buy the 150-acre course for $1.9 million, according to real estate records filed in Roanoke County (Va.) Circuit Court.
The Times reported that the seller was Hunting Hills Golf LLC, established by Old Heritage Corp., the entity that built Hunting Hills and which had decided to sell its holdings.
The Times also reported that under its new ownership, the semi-private club, which is located fives miles south of downtown Roanoke, is also planning to increase the hours when the public can play the course, as it anticipates the 50-year anniversary of the course’s construction in 2021.
The golf course is in its best shape of the decade and public access is going to expand, Duke Edsall, Hunting Hills’ General Manager and Membership Director, told the Times. While the course is surrounded by approximately 800 condominiums, townhomes and houses and membership has been on the rise, the course has yet to see rounds increase, Edsall noted, but he hopes additional outreach to the public will now have that effect.
The Hunting Hills community is also offering members of the public a chance to get in on the golf course purchase deal, the Times reported. The limited-liability company still owes about $950,000 on the purchase, and to retire the debt, the company is offering shares in Hunting Hills Community Real Estate LLC at $5,000 apiece to the general public.
Each share, the Times reported, also includes a dues-free dining membership, which entitles the holder to use the dining room at the club.
