Creating a fitness regime tailored to individual needs has become a new way of living at Mizner Country Club in Delray Beach, Fla. Last September, the club partnered with Technogym to design an expanded fitness center that replaced an outdated building with cramped quarters. “It just wasn’t flexible enough to adapt to today’s health-conscious, technological and environmental universe,” explains Paul Raymond, Director of Fitness, Spa and Aquatics.
The expanded 6,000-sq. ft. facility—a significant jump from the previous 1,200 sq. ft.—houses over 50 pieces of gym equipment and includes a 1,017-sq. ft. group aerobics studio. New design features include a 532-sq. ft. Pilates studio, a 725-sq. ft. group cycle studio and two massage and tranquility quiet rooms. A seamless layout allows gym goers to move effortlessly, with a diverse programming roster that is as conducive to individual workouts as it is to group training sessions.
“The renovation gave us more square footage for group aerobics and specialty classes,” Raymond says. “We can now run multiple classes at the same time, which we were not able to accommodate prior.
“We also provided open functional-movement spaces, to hold boxing classes and other performance-driven programming on the gym floor,” he adds. “With the diversity of our membership, we also made sure we had plenty of space and the tools required for strength training.”
The fitness center utilizes technology to create a customized experience for personal workouts. Individual equipment is designed to connect to users’ mobile devices, so they can keep track of personal fitness goals and monitor their progress on various machines.
“Members can also access their personal information and training programs on any Technogym machine, from anywhere and from any personal device,” Raymond notes. This enhancement also allows Mizner’s fitness staff to analyze data and tailor individual workouts accordingly.
After a vigorous workout, members can refresh themselves at The Market, Mizner’s newly designed café that offers a health-conscious menu of fresh juices, smoothies, salad bowls and sandwiches, or snack on resh fruit. “Recovery through nutrition is key to performance, and we are working toward educating our members to train, fuel and rest,” Raymond notes. The club is also looking to bolster its programming with topical health and wellness lectures, as well as Pilates and boot camps for teens.
