The Homeowners Association of the Zachary, La., community announced the definitive agreement to purchase the golf course from developer Ross Bruce. No changes are planned for memberships, tee times, or course coupons, but the new owners are considering a new clubhouse and pro shop. It is undecided if the group will seek out a management firm to operate the course.
The Homeowners Association of Copper Mill Golf Club in Zachary, La., announced that it has formed a definitive agreement to purchase the golf course from developer Ross Bruce for $1.2 million, the Greater Baton Rouge (La.) Business Report reported.
No changes are planned for memberships, tee times, or course coupons, but future changes do include a new clubhouse and a new golf pro shop, said HOA President James Maughan.
“The ultimate goal with the clubhouse is to provide an area for golfers to accommodate all of their needs, and then also to provide an area for club members and homeowners to dine and meet, with the goal of being more community-oriented,” Maughan says.
The homeowners association has not yet determined whether it will enter into a partnership with a national chain or a private group to manage the pro shop, Maughan said, but it will be receiving and reviewing proposals from homeowners. The hope is to complete the clubhouse within a year, the Business Report reported.
The golf course is currently a semi-private facility, but the homeowners association may eventually pursue a move to go private, the Business Report reported.
“We intend to continue to go in that direction [semi-private], but there’s discussion about the ultimate goal of going to private,” Maughan said.
The homeowners association has negotiated the purchase during the past few months, and the acquisition is expected to be finalized in the current quarter, the Business Report reported.
