City officials were on hand to showcase the Pacoima, Calif., property’s system on February 6, which will save up to 163 million gallons of drinking water each year.
Hansen Dam Golf Course in Pacoima, Calif., is joining a citywide effort to conserve water, the Los Angeles CBS affiliate reported.
Mayor Eric Garcetti, City Councilmember Felipe Fuentes and other city officials marked the completion of a recycled water system at the golf course on February 6. The new system will save up to 163 million gallons of drinking water each year, roughly enough for 1,000 L.A. households, CBS reported.
The project is part of a Garcetti executive directive to use recycled water to irrigate 85 percent of public golf course acreage by 2017, CBS reported.
Recycled water—which is wastewater that has been highly treated and approved for beneficial reuse by the California Department of Public Health—is a key component of a Department of Water & Power strategy to provide a cost-effective and drought-resistant source of water, CBS reported.
