On September 29th, Hamilton Farm Golf Club (“Where Old-World Charm Meets New-Era Needs,” C&RB, June 2008) hosted an inaugural community golf outing in support of local municipalities. Teams were made up of golfers from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s office, Somerset County’s “200 Club” (a local non-profit group that provides aid to families of fallen police, fire and rescue workers), and fire and rescue personnel from the communities of Bernardsville, Pottersville, Peapack-Gladstone and Somerville. Participants also included the New Jersey State Police and local law enforcement officers, for a total of 118 players.
The event began with an 8:30 AM shotgun start on the club’s championship Highlands Golf Course, including 9 holes on its USGA-rated Hickory (par 3) Course. At 3:00 PM the players came off the course for lunch in the clubhouse. All of the day’s events were provided compliments of Hamilton Farm GC and vendors (SYSCO, Greentree Meatpacking, Chester Bagel and Deli and Budweiser) that also lent their support to the cause.
“It is beyond generous that Hamilton Farm offers this to law enforcement officers and firemen; we are very appreciative,” said Frank Provenzano, Somerset County Sheriff.
“It was an honor hosting the inaugural ‘Guns and Hoses’ event at Hamilton Farm, to serve those who protect and serve the community every day,” said Tim Bakels, the club’s General Manager/Chief Operating Officer.
