A groundbreaking ceremony will be held this month in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. for the planned $25 million casino at The Greenbrier Resort.
That ceremony will be held on the front lawn of the luxury hotel site. The casino, which is scheduled to open by the spring of 2010, will be built under that lawn, reports the MetroNews. It will be accessed through the main lobby, using a circular staircase that goes underground.
When the casino plans were announced earlier this year, Vice President of Casino Operations Todd Fishon said the casino will serve as another offering of The Greenbrier, but not as the focus of The Greenbrier.
“Casinos are usually the focal point of a property, but here we already have the focus point,” Fishon notes. “We already have a great business here, a hotel. The casino’s going to be a tasteful amenity that’s going to create another exciting opportunity to engage in activity at different times of the day.”
More than 200 permanent jobs could be created in Greenbrier County when the permanent casino is finished.
By September, a temporary gambling venue with several table games and slot machines will open at The Greenbrier.
