The 15,000-sq. ft. golf operations building at the Birmingham, Ala., property will include a restaurant, fitness center, and golf teaching facility. It is set for completion in April 2015.
Greystone Golf & Country Club has broken ground on its new restaurant, fitness center and golf teaching facility in Birmingham, Ala., the Birmingham News reported.
With an estimated 15,000 total sq. ft., the Greystone golf operations building and teaching center will have a combined $10 million economic impact annually for the state once completed in 2015. Around 15-20 full-time positions will be added once construction is finished, the News reported.
At the groundbreaking for the facilities on August 19, club President Jeff Clifton said the new construction was the result of a survey of Greystone members, the News reported.
“Everyone wanted more food options, a bigger and better fitness facility and more teaching services,” he said. “We knew we wanted to increase our fitness and dining offerings, and our members spoke loud and clear.”
The operations building is expected to be completed in April 2015 and will feature a new food outlet, a much larger fitness center and a childcare facility, explained General Manager Calvin Bolling.
“It’s great for the Greystone community as a whole and for Birmingham,” he said. “It touches all areas of our membership.”
The Golf Teaching Center has an expected completion date of January 2015, and will be the site for the Blackburn Golf Academy at Greystone, the News reported.
“Everyone is very excited. We’ve been waiting for this moment for the last year, and everyone is ready to move forward on the project,” Bolling said.
In addition to the new structures at Greystone, the Founders Golf Course is being “made over” by the PGA Champions Tour in preparation for the Regions Tradition golf tournament returning to Greystone in 2016, 2017 and 2018, the News reported.
“We’re excited about the renovations. We’ll be digging down 26-30 inches down into the sub-surface of the green. We’re addressing the slope to make it a little bit fairer and providing a little more character,” he said.
