The private, member-owned Birmingham, Ala., property will implement $500,000 in course upgrades, as well as add a golf operations center, fitness center, contemporary kitchen, bar area, and golf teaching facility.
In July 2014, modifications to the Founders Golf Course at Greystone Golf & Country Club in Birmingham, Ala., will begin.
Up to $500,000 in course upgrades will be made by the PGA Tour’s Champions Tour (Greystone will host the Regions Tradition in 2016, 2017 and 2018) with the estimated completion date in late September 2014.
“The golf course renovations at Founders will require course closure of approximately ninety days, at which time the Legacy Golf Course will be open for play,” said club President Dr. Jeff Clifton.
With the return of the Regions Tradition, the Board of Directors and the club trustees approved funding three building projects that would enhance and benefit the club long-term. The three projects were presented to the membership, and a vote was cast with an approval rating of 95%. The projects include:
1) Building a new 9,000-sq. ft. golf operations center which will host the golf car fleet, and a recognition plaza.
2) Completely renovating the lower level of the Founders Clubhouse adding a 4,500-sq. ft. state-of-the-art fitness center, childcare facility, contemporary kitchen, bar area, casual dining room with seating for seventy people, modernized women’s locker room, and more.
3) Building a new golf teaching facility at the Legacy Course.
The membership will not be assessed or see an increase in their capital dues. The preliminary schedule would be to start the projects in July 2014 and have them completed by March 2016 in anticipation of the Regions Tradition in early May 2016.
“The Club membership will have new facilities that will be aesthetically attractive, spaces that are functional, and areas that address our most challenged issues. These areas will increase utilization and attract new families to the Club,” General Manager Calvin Bolling said.
To inform the membership about the projects, the Club had two short videos made. The first video was shown during the Town Hall Meeting presentation of the projects, Greystone’s strategic plan, and the announcement of the Regions Tradition Champions Tour major golf tournament returning to Greystone. The second video was available to the members who could not attend the Town Hall Meeting and wanted a brief overview.
