Rick Tatum, Director of Golf Course Operations for Grey Oaks Country Club in Naples, Fla., was killed in a July 2nd boating accident in the Florida Keys. He was 48. Tatum, a 1987 graduate of the Michigan State University turfgrass program, relocated to southwest Florida immediately after graduating and worked for several other clubs in the region, including The Club at Pelican Bay, the Bonita Bay Club, The Forest Country Club, and Shadow Wood Country Club, before joining Grey Oaks in 2001.
“He was an icon in the industry,” Grey Oaks General Manager Jim Butler, who also worked with Tatum at The Forest Country Club, said after his death. “The thing that I’ll remember most is his passion,” added Darren Davis, Director of Golf Course Operations at the Olde Florida Golf Club in Naples, and President of the Florida Turfgrass Association.
