The home features a formal dining room, along with nine bedrooms and nine fireplaces. There is also a large pool on the grounds, a tennis court, a volleyball court and other amenities. The property could be used for entertaining, special events and lodging.
The Greenwich (Conn.) Country Club was granted permission to incorporate a large home and its 6-acre property into the existing club and its main campus, the Greenwich Time reported. At a meeting and review at the Planning and Zoning Commission on Nov. 22, the attorney representing the club, Bruce Cohen, told the commissioners about the club’s acquisition of the property.
“When this parcel came onto the market, the club determined to purchase it,” Cohen said. The acquisition of the parcel, which is located on the northwest corner of the club’s property, was a “strategic” one, he said.
C+RB first reported in October that the home features a formal dining room, along with nine bedrooms and nine fireplaces. There is also a large pool on the grounds, a tennis court, a volleyball court and other amenities. The property could be used for entertaining, special events and lodging.
A master plan for the future of the Greenwich Country Club and its facilities is in the works, Cohen told the P&Z Commission, and said that the planning guide will determine how the new property will be used, the Time reported. In the meantime, he said, the home located on the parcel will continue to be used as a residence, on a rental basis.
There have been some preliminary discussions about relocating platform tennis facilities to the parcel of land, Cohen told the Time. A new access point to and from the main club could also be part of the future use of the parcel, he said.
“There are no present plans,” the attorney said, and any new construction or work at the site would require approvals from the Planning & Zoning Commission.
The house on the property measures more than 10,000 sq. ft. in space, with a total of 23 rooms, the Time reported. The property was sold last year for $9.6 million.
The Greenwich Country Club embarked on a major renovation of its golf course beginning in 2018. It has about 650 members.
There were no comments from the public at the meeting, and the commissioners did not express any objections to the consolidation, the Time reported. The commission approved the application unanimously.
