The first phase—pool complex—opened on Memorial Day weekend and includes a separate adult pool, family pool and splash pad for children. The Fitness, Health and Wellness Center recently opened its doors to the new cardio and training studio expansion, which offers dedicated areas for circuit training, cardio equipment, functional training, stretching, personal training and more than 30 group exercise classes per week.
The Irving Park campus of Greensboro (N.C.) Country Club broke ground on a $20 million renovation project in February 2021. With the members in favor of the scope of the project, excitement grew as construction started in late fall 2021.
“It is a tremendous transformation,” commented Friedrich Eder, Chief Operating Officer/General Manager of Greensboro Country Club. “The project is touching every part of the Irving Park clubhouse, and we are excited to see the first sections open up to the membership.”
The $20 million renovation provides a new pool experience with a separate adult pool, family pool and splash pad for the little ones. Umbrella-covered chaise lounges and trellis-covered table seating overlook both pools and the splash pad. There is a zero-entry feature at the family pool with six lap lanes for the swim team, water basketball, low-rise (1 meter) and mid-rise (3 meters) diving boards and a water slide. The heated adult-only pool features three lanes for lap swimming and submerged chaise lounges for relaxation, providing a resort-style pool experience.
The pool complex opened on Memorial Day weekend. The official Grand Opening of the pool complex occurred in June 2022, where club members experienced a weekend of celebratory events poolside, including a “Havana Nights” party, a “Passport to Fun” event the following morning, a “Celebrating GCC” party that evening, complete with fireworks, and a “Grand Brunch Buffet” on the next morning.
“Greensboro Country Club staff worked to make these events successful, serving over 600 people at the members-only event on Friday, and close to 650 people on Saturday. The members enjoyed every bit of it, and the staff was excited to welcome the members to their new pool complex,” said Eder.
The newest facility to open at the club is the Fitness, Health and Wellness Center. Recently opening its doors to the new cardio and training studio expansion in August 2022, this state-of-the-art center offers dedicated areas for circuit training, cardio equipment, functional training, stretching, personal training and more than 30 group exercise classes per week. Adjacent to the Fitness, Health and Wellness Center is the new Youth Activities Center. Opening soon, this facility will offer a child-watch service, as well as activities, games and fun for youth of a variety of ages.
Inside the clubhouse, the new Sunset Dining Room and Lounge will offer a refined and elegant dining experience. While on the lower level, there will be multiple indoor and outdoor dining spaces that offer members a variety of casual dining experiences including an adults-only sports bar and family grill restaurants. The most popular of which is the Donald Ross Terrace.
“Members just love this space,” Mark Davidson, President of the Board of Directors commented. “This open-air bar and dining area adjacent to the adult pool offers fantastic views of the pool and the golf course, partially covered space for year-round usage and cozy lounge areas. Members will enjoy this area year-round.”
Greensboro Country Club has a rich history of improving upon the facilities and amenities offered at the club. The Farm Clubhouse was renovated a few years ago, bringing the interior and exterior of the building up to date. Most recently, four pickleball courts were built at the Irving Park campus to support this growing trend in racquet sports.
“It is important to keep moving forward in this industry,” Davidson said. “To improve upon the members’ experience at the club is paramount. This is where they make memories for a lifetime.”
