According to The Charleston Gazette, the Greenbrier’s new owner has bought out the resort’s partner in the Greenbrier Sporting Club and is bringing back its top sales people to the private, luxury-home development in White Sulphur Springs, W. Va.
Jim Justice, who purchased The Greenbrier in May, said he spent $14 million to end the Sporting Club’s partnership with Dolan, Pollak & Schram Development Co., a real estate marketing and development firm based in Savannah, Ga. As part of the change, John Klemish, who had been the most successful salesman at the Greenbrier Sporting Club, is returning to lead sales efforts. Klemish has sold more than $1 billion in real estate during his career, Justice said.
Also, Larry Klein, general manager of the Greenbrier Sporting Club, has been named vice president of the club.
And Peter McKinley, president of the architectural board of the Sporting Club, is returning as The Greenbrier’s vice president of new development. McKinley will head the proposed casino addition to The Greenbrier.
The Greenbrier Sporting Club, a gated residential community, was developed in 2000 by DPS in partnership with CSX, the longtime owner of The Greenbrier. DPS has several luxury properties, including The Ford Plantation on the Ogeechee River in Georgia and in the Turks & Caicos in the Caribbean.
Under the arrangement, homeowners in the Greenbrier Sporting Club have access to many of The Greenbrier’s amenities.
Justice said the return of the resort’s “A-team” and buying out DPS fits with his plan to restore The Greenbrier to its former glory. “These are all stepping stones in moving forward and making this the best resort in the world,” Justice said. “Things are going to be really different.”
