The fast-moving blaze at the Bullhead City, Ariz. course started near a sand trap and burned grass and duff down into an arroyo. Neighbors called 911 after seeing flames in the rough near the course. No injuries or other property damage were reported.
A fast-moving grass fire burned roughly one-quarter acre at the Laughlin Ranch Golf Club in Bullhead City, Ariz. on Sunday, March 27, the Mohave Daily News of Bullhead City reported..
Emergency crews responded about 3:15 pm to a call of a fire on the golf course, Battalion Chief Bill Kinsey of the Bullhead City Fire Department told the Daily News. No injuries and no property damage were reported after a fire that appeared to have started near the 12th green burned the roughly one-quarter acre area into a wash, the Daily News reported.
The fire appeared to have started around the 12th green sand trap and burned grass and duff down into an arroyo, Kinsey said. No cause had yet been determined, the Daily News reported.
Neighbors Ed and Chris Hoople called 911 after seeing flames out on the rough near the course. “I could see a golf cart and four guys were out there with rakes trying to pull back vegetation and put the flames out,” Ed Hoople told the Daily News.
“It got out of control pretty quickly,” Chris Hoople added. “I was sure by the time we called 911 one of them [seen trying to put out the fire] would have used their phone to call. We’re not sure if they did.”
The fire was driven by a light wind and dry grass, Kinsey said. “This is a good opportunity to remind people that as the weather warms up, vegetation dries out,” he told the Daily News. “[When] strong winds are expected, these dry, windy conditions mean people should be vigilant about disposing their smoking materials safely, and keeping a watchful eye on barbecue grills, coals, and fire pits.”
