Several club members reported having cash and credit cards stolen from their vehicles. “This is the first time we’ve ever had what seemed lke a professional job, where they’re going out of the way to blend in,” said the club’s controller. “It worked because nothing seemed like it was out of place.”
Police in Lexington, Ky. have asked for the public’s help in identifying three people accused of stealing from vehicles, after surveillance video showed them inside the parking lot of Greenbrier Golf & Country Club, WKYT of Lexington reported.
Thefts from at least five vehicles in the club’s parking lot occurred on a weekday evening between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m., WKYT reported, while “a number of members, staff and children were passing through the lot,” according to the club.
The surveillance video showed two men standing in between vehicles, decked out in polo shirts and khaki shorts as if they were going for a round of golf, WKYT reported. One of the men even walked around with a set of golf clubs and they all “[waved] to people who passed nearby,” according to Greenbrier employees.
One of the thieves worked as a lookout and talked on a Bluetooth earpiece to someone who was likely in a getaway car, WKYT reported, citing reports from the club staff. Another tested car doors and forced entry into at least five vehicles, and club members reported cash and credit cards stolen from their vehicles.
The thieves were seen entering and leaving the parking lot and neighborhood in a small Mercedes SUV, WKYT reported.
“This is the first time we’ve ever had what seemed like a professional job, where they’re going out of the way to blend in,” Josh Osborne, the club’s Controller, told WKYT. “It seemingly worked, because nothing really seemed like it was out of place.
“We want to remind everyone to be vigilant, lock their car doors and make sure everything is out of sight,” Osborne added.
In addition to posting an alert and photos on social media, The Greenbrier staff also reached out to other golf clubs in the area to put them on alert, WKYT reported.
