Golfers dressed in parkas and boots rather than shorts and golf shirts teed off on an unusual course over the weekend—a frozen northeastern Pennsylvania lake, the Philadelphia-based WTXF FOX 29 reported.
The 23rd annual Ice Tee Golf Tournament was held January 26 on Lake Wallenpaupack on the border of Wayne and Pike counties, and attracted 167 hardy golfers, WTXF reported.
The Pocono Lake Region Chamber of Commerce hasn’t held the event for the past two years because it wasn’t cold enough, which didn’t prove to be a problem this year, WTXF reported.
Craig Smith, who came from Fremont, Neb., said he didn’t recommend “using a white ball out there.”
Keith Williams, of the area’s visitors bureau, pronounced the course “challenging,” because “if you hit the green, it’ll bounce.”
Golfer Kevin Duda called it borderline insanity, but asked where else you could play golf in nine degrees in mid-January, WTXF reported.
