Made of leaves, paper, silk and even plastic, kites—the ancestor of all aircraft—have been used to spy on enemies, send signals, determine the weather, explore the atmosphere, photograph the earth, catch fish, drop bombs and loft men and women into the air. Now, they’re being used to attract club members, too.
A giant fish, a rocket ship, and a helicopter are just a few of the kites that will color the skies high above South Shore Country Club in Hingham, Mass. during the club’s annual kite day on Saturday, March 27.
“We’re very excited about this year’s event,” Jay McGrail, Operations Manager for South Shore CC, told The Hingham Journal. “It seems to have grown in popularity a little more each year, and we now see it as sort of the unofficial start of spring here at the club. We’re excited to be able to offer area families a fun diversion from their usual routines.”
Rain or shine, Kite Day promises an environment with activities the whole family will enjoy, including kite flying and lessons, hay rides, bubble machines, clowns, face painting, and more. To add to the excitement, a local clown act showcasing a bag of tricks to attendees will be part of the festivities.
