A WARM-SEASON GRASS that grows primarily in wet shady areas and even grows well on extremely wet acid soils where no other grass will survive, carpetgrass has a medium texture and light green coloring similar to centipede grasses.
Attributes
• Thrives under low fertility and is thus well-suited for roughs, though it is also good for fairways
• Hardy and relatively cold-tolerant
• Thrives in areas too wet for Bermudagrass and also does better than Bermuda in shady areas
• Excellent coverage crowds out weeds
Drawbacks
• Requires frequent mowing
• Requires relatively high nitrogen levels when used on fairways
• Not as drought-tolerant as Bermuda
• Vulnerable to common soil-borne diseases such as brownpatch and Pythium, and most leaf-spot diseases
