GCSAA’s environmental programs director, Greg Lyman, will speak at the first-ever Symposium on Affordable Golf, to be held Nov. 8 at Southern Pines (N.C.) Golf Club.
The free, one-day event will bring together industry representatives for an open discussion on the challenges golf faces as an expensive recreational option and the need to change attitudes within the golf industry.
The symposium will look at the game of golf in a different light-one that is more sustainable than many business models that have failed in the past few decades, organizers say. Topics will include environmental strategies, golf course management in the British Isles, case studies, cost-conscious lessons from the Golden Age, replicating tournament conditions and more.
Lyman will participate in the discussion “Environmental Strategies That Can Also Make the Game More Affordable,” along with Ron Boyd, president and co-founder of Williamsburg Environmental Group Inc., and Kevin Fletcher, Ph.D., executive director of Audubon International. Among the topics Lyman will cover in the discussion will be “Golf’s Drive Toward Sustainability,” an industry-wide initiative led by The Environmental Institute for Golf.
