The Golf Course Builders Association of America (GCBAA) Foundation will fund 50 new Sticks for Kids program locations in 2011.
“Continuing to grow the Sticks for Kids initiative is so critical to the continued success of golf around the country and the world,” said Bill Kubly, president of the GCBAA Foundation. “It introduces the game to children that otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity to learn it and ensures the game we love continues to flourish for decades to come.”
More than 300,000 children have participated in Sticks for Kids programs in the past 4 years.
The GCBAA Foundation will continue to present the program in partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association. With the additions, Sticks for Kids will have 560 programs operating throughout all 50 states and 18 military bases in 2011. In 2009, the program expanded to China and now has more than 130 programs in 32 cities there, with the financial support of Forward Management Group, a GCBAA International member based in China.
The GCBAA Foundation provides 10 sets of clubs and bags for each program site along with marketing and instruction materials. The children are not only taught the game of golf, but also receive instruction on safety, integrity, discipline, sportsmanship and respect for self and others in addition to how to be good environmental stewards. The golf clubs are kept at the golf facility for free use by the children throughout the year.
The 50 new programs were selected from more than 200 applicants.
