Craig Tabet, owner of Tierra Del Sol GC in Rio Communities, N.M., says the property has had three break-ins over the last month, the last one resulting in thefts of $15,000 to $20,000 worth of items. “I’ve been at Del Sol for the last 18 years, and we’ve never had this theft problem ever,” says Tabet, who is offering a $5,000 reward for help recovering stolen property. One of the thieves seen in surveillance videos was identified as an ex-employee, and local officials say they’ve made one arrest and have two warrants out for suspects.
The owner of Tierra Del Sol Golf Club in Rio Communities, New Mexico is fed up with the amount of crime happening at his club and throughout his community, KRQE of Albuquerque, N.M. reported. He is now pleading with local law enforcement to do more, in addition to appealing to the public and offering a reward for help in recovering what he says now totals over $20,000 in stolen property, merchandise and money.
“The last month or so, we’ve been broken into three times,” Craig Tabet told KRQE. “I’ve been at Del Sol for the last 18 years, and we’ve never had this theft problem ever.”
A surveillance video from the most recent crime shows two suspects breaking into the golf course’s equipment garage and stealing an estimated $15,000 to $20,000 worth of items, including golf clubs, weed whackers, a steel blower, a power washer, a golf cart, and a utility cart, KRQE reported.
That was the third break-in over the past month, Tabet said, with two other thieves also breaking into the golf course’s buildings previously to steal money and merchandise.
The surveillance video of the crimes was sent to the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office, KRQE reported, and Tabet said he even told deputies that he identified one of the most recent thieves as an ex-employee. He’s pushing for law enforcement to do more to deter crime in the small community.
“Nothing’s been done, and I kind of lost hope in getting my property back,” Tabet said. “So I posted [on social media], just to alert the community, because that’s all I’ve been hearing left and right, every single day that this is happening, someone’s getting broken into a house over here, over there, all around the golf community.”
Tabet is also offering a $5,000 reward for anyone who’s able to help him get property back from the most recent break-in.
Officials with the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office told KRQE that they made one arrest for the first break-in, and have two arrest warrants out for the others. Valencia County Sheriff’s officials also said they have one full-time deputy assigned to monitor Rio Communities, but said other deputies will also respond to crimes and emergencies when necessary.
