A pair of storks in a northern German town have built nests on a local golf course, where they’ve mistaken golf balls for eggs, and have attempted to hatch them.
“So they’ve landed, they’ve built themselves a nest, and they’ve taken the golf balls in like a simulation that they’ve got eggs in the nest, and they’ve tried to hatch these golf balls. Naturally, they won’t get any result out of it,” said Golf Instructor Chris Parker. “We had two nests at one time, we had 11 balls in one nest and three balls in the other nest.”
A wildlife expert speculated that the pair lost their original nest in a fight with rival storks and resorted to building a home on the green instead. Local residents have given the birds a real stork egg, to prevent their disappointment, and look forward to seeing a chick sometime. soon.
The golf course plans to construct masts, so the storks can build their nest off the ground in the future.
