After being spotted on the course of The Hideaway Country Club in Fort Myers, Fla., the eight-foot-long was captured on film scrambling up and over a chain-link fence topped with barbed wire.
It wasn’t a typical day on the green at The Hideaway Country Club in Fort Myers, Fla. on June 29, reported WBBH-TV NBC-2 of Fort Myers.
Golfers on the course that day spotted an eight-foot-long alligator that then displayed unusual agility and grit to get back to where it wanted to be, climbing right over a chain-link fence that was topped with barbed wire, as captured on the video below:
The Hideaway’s General Manager/COO, Jeff Wilson, told WBHH that he’ll look into fortifying the fence in the future.
“[The gator’s climb] wiggled some of the poles up a little bit,” Wilson said. “The fact that he went over barbed wire too is pretty amazing—but of course, alligator skin is pretty tough.”
The gator’s climbing feat had particular relevance, WBHH noted, because of the recent announcement that Disney Resorts would start to install fences in the water at its properties, after the tragic incident where an alligator snatched a two-year-old who was playing on the beach at the Grand Floridian Resort.
But as the video from The Hideaway shows, even having a fence may not be enough to always stop gators from getting where they want to go:
