Like kids used to do with “Super Balls,” this Brazilian bird was clearly intent on seeing how high it could get a golf ball to bounce off a cart path.
This seriema, a Brazilian bird that is said to frequently visit golf practice facilities in southeast South America, was captured selecting a golf ball off a course and then running over to the cart path to slam it off the hard surface by dropping it out of its beak with a violent nod of its head. The bird then runs around, flapping its wings, in seeming delight over how high the ball bounced, in much the same way as kids used to do when “Super Balls” first became a craze back in the 1960s.
The bird seems to have so much fun, in fact, that it then runs to retrieve the same ball and give it a second bounce in the same way.
If Olympic golf in Rio de Janeiro needs some additional hype later this summer, perhaps a number of these birds could be brought in for an additional golf-related event with this type of action, to see which seriema can achieve a gold-medal-winning bounce:
