Inspired by recent exposure given to new approaches to growing the game of golf by major media outlets such as HBO and the Golf Channel, Forewinds Hospitality is planning a “Relaxed Rules Weekend” for its two courses in Delaware (Deerfield in Newark, Del., and Garrisons Lake Golf Club in Smyrna, Del.).
“Our clubs are working hard to evolve with the rapidly changing golf customer and his or her new, different set of wants and needs,” says Jeff Robinson, Forewinds’ Director of Sales and Marketing. “This Relaxed Rules Weekend will be a great way to invite more golfers into the fold, retain them more successfully, and best of all, have more fun!
“Part of Relaxed Rules Weekend will be the presence of the nearly double-sized 8-inch cups on all greens, all weekend [giving the golfer the choice to shoot for the traditional cup or the larger one],” Robinson adds.
Robinson points to this recent feature on HBO’s REAL SPORTS with Bryant Gumbel as “a really interesting watch for anyone who’s invested in, or interested in, the golf industry”—and as a major source of inspiration for Forewinds’ Relaxed Rules Weekend event:
And during the Relaxed Rules Weekend event, Robinson adds, the Forewinds’ courses will “follow the Golf Channel’s new Relaxed Rules Of Golf”:
“For those who wish to do so, [we will] have some fun food/beverage specials, and relax our dress code to allow things like cargo shorts, tee shirts, and denim,” Robinson says of the event. ”It will be an interesting study of how everyone feels about the change and how much of a ‘norm’ it becomes over time.”
