At Fox Hollow Golf Club in New Port Richey, Fla., they’d love to have whole families teeing off together. With the addition of a short course for kids ages 4-11, they might be seeing that very soon.
According to the course’s pro, Matt Coté, Fox Hollow has added two sets of tees to its par-71 course: a set of blue tees for 4- to 7-year-olds and a set of gold tees for 8- to 11-year-olds. The two will give kids a 2,374-yard and a 3,878-yard, par-71 course, respectively.
“The thinking was that they get to play a real golf course,” Coté said to the St. Petersburg Times. “It is like a big course because the bunkers and water hazards are still in play and they get to use the fairways and real greens.”
This is no temporary thing, Coté added. The new tees are permanent so that kids have a chance to play with their parents on a routine basis.
“Kids love to compete,” Coté said. “They love to do what their parents do and even beat them at it once in a while. Kids can now keep pace with their parents instead of using the same tee box and then picking up their ball and hitting it from the parents’ spot. This lets the actually play golf.”
