The property added new tees, greens, cart paths, drainage, bathrooms, flag poles and more in preparation for the ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 31.
A multi-million dollar renovation at the Fort Myers (Fla.) Country Club is nearly complete after being closed for six months, the Fort Myers-based WINK News reported.
“Just look around, it’s transformed into a really, really, nice golf course,” said golfer John King, who remembers what the property looked like right before it closed in May. “It was pretty well, worn out to be honest with ya.”
Rich Lamb, the Director of Golf for the city, said $6 million went into the project, WINK reported.
“We started from the very beginning, we rounded up the entire facility and everything you see is brand new. We have new tees, new greens, new cart paths, new drainage, new bathrooms, new flag poles,” said Lamb.
Lamb said the money was well spent on a course that has nearly 100 years of history, WINK reported.
“It sounds like a lot of money but when you see the tourists coming into Fort Myers, as we witnessed this year and the year coming, I think they’ll be so happy with it and it will be a good investment.”
Crews are still working on the grounds, putting in last minute touch-ups before the big unveiling and ribbon cutting on October 31. The course will officially reopen on November 1, WINK reported.
Lamb said the money used to renovate the club came from an enterprise fund, WINK reported.
