A new $5.2 million, 18,000-sq. ft. wellness and fitness center has made the 102-year-old club in Winston-Salem, N.C. “more like a spa resort,” said COO Lee Smith. The new facility follows $2.2 million in enhancements to the main dining area that was completed in the spring.
A multiyear project to upgrade the facilities at the Forsyth Country Club in Winston-Salem, N.C. has been completed, reported the Triad Business Journal of Greensboro, N.C.
The 102-year-old country club now boasts an 18,000-sq.-ft. wellness and fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment, a major upgrade from the previous 1,100-sq. ft. facility there, said Lee Smith, Chief Operating Officer. The club, with a membership base that includes 985 families, is one of the largest private, member-owned clubs in the state, the Business Journal noted.
The $7 million-plus renovation and building project was completed in two phases, with phase one—$2.2 million in enhancements to the main dining area, including a 135-seat patio with views out over the golf course—completed and unveiled last spring, the Business Journal reported.
Now, with the second phase producing the $5.2 million wellness and fitness facility, Smith said, the country club is “more like a spa resort,” the Business Journal reported.
The new facility features cardiovascular equipment that can be used by anyone from members with limited mobility to members with excellent athletic ability, the Business Journal reported. Cable weight systems and free weights are also available in the center.
The two-level center also has a personal training area and three exercise studios, Smith said, where boot camps, high-intensity “mind and body classes” (yoga or barre) and cycle classes will be held. About 60 cycle classes per week already are being held, the Business Journal reported.
Golf-specific equipment and training are also available to help players improve their games.
The club has also recently completed projects to improve its dining and kitchen areas, outside decks and pool facilities, the Business Journal reported.
