Chaise Vegas appeared in court March 29 on charges of theft after he was arrested in January following a two-month investigation into finances of the Milford, Neb., golf course. In an affidavit, police said Vegas took $141,725.64 from the club over 18 months through unauthorized withdrawals from the course’s payroll and operating accounts.
A former treasurer of Thornridge Golf Course in Milford, Neb., faces felony theft charges after police there say he embezzled more than $141,000, according to court documents, the Lincoln (Neb.) Journal Star reported.
Chaise J. Vegas, 31, appeared in Seward County Court on March 29 on charges of theft by unlawful taking more than $1,500 and theft by unlawful taking more than $5,000. Vegas was arrested in January following a two-month investigation into finances of the golf course, the Journal Star reported.
In an affidavit, Milford Police Chief Forrest Siebken said Vegas was appointed the course’s club treasurer in April 2015. Over the next 18 months, Siebken said, Vegas made unauthorized withdrawals from the course’s payroll and operating accounts, writing himself checks totaling $141,725.64, the Journal Star reported.
Through October 31, 2016, Vegas deposited more than $62,000 back into the accounts, the chief said. After being confronted by the course’s president in November, Vegas and his father paid the course $71,000, the Journal Star reported.
The Seward County Independent and Milford Times reported Vegas had resigned his position in December and that the club said it had been repaid for all unauthorized withdrawals. The chief said in January that Vegas still owed about $3,500, the Journal Star reported.
Vegas’ attorney Sean Brennan didn’t return a call seeking comment. Vegas is out of jail on $25,000 bond, the Journal Star reported.
