Fire crews responded to a call on the morning of October 13th, where flames and smoke could be seen at the Nichols Hills, Okla. club’s facility. People who were inside when the fire started got out safely. A smoking transformer was cited as the cause.
A smoking transformer is to blame for a fire at the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club’s athletic center in Nichols Hills, Okla. on the morning of October 13, KOCO reported. Oklahoma City and Nichols Hills fire crews responded to the facility, where flames and large smoke could be seen.
Crews extinguished the fire, and firefighters remained on the scene to perform salvage and overhaul, KOCO reported. Fire officials have not reported any injuries. Some people were inside the athletic center when the fire started, but they got out safely.
Officials said the building might have some water damage inside, KOCO reported.
The Athletic Center brings together the club’s current tennis programs and fitness programs under one roof. A new center, opening in late December, features group classes for cardiovascular and strength training; customized classes offering spinning, water rolling and free-weights; and secondary groups exercise classes including Yoga, Dark Yoga, Pilates, Body Fusion, Barre, Boot Camps, Boxing, Hi-Lo Aerobics and rowing.
There are six distinct workout areas for group exercise classes. A cardio area that includes more than 20 pieces of equipment, and free weights. Also, a state-of-the art TRX system, which is the first one installed in the state.
The tennis facility has three indoor courts and two night-lit hard courts with new lighting. Two full size Hydro-Clay Courts and a 60 ft. Junior Clay Court. There is a viewing area of the indoor courts with a lounge and coffee bar.
The ladies’ and men’s locker rooms have been completely renovated and include steam and dry saunas, private lockers and showers with their own changing rooms.
There are two massage rooms, a full-service retail shop that offers a line of tennis and athletic wear. Included is a Grab & Go Café where members may pick-up breakfast items, a quick lunch or dinner before heading home or to the office.
